Importance of Responsibility
A man enters an office to attend an interview. He passes through the office gate and notices that water from a hose is being wasted instead of watering the plants in the garden. The gardener is not taking care of this. He closes the valve of the water hose and continues into the office. Upon entering, he sees that the entrance mat is not in the proper place, so he adjusts it. Inside, he notices that lights and fans are on wastefully with no one working there. He switches them off and climbs the steps to the room where the interview is being held. There, he sees a photo hanging upside down and corrects its position. He then proceeds to the interview room, where he learns that the interviewer rejects everyone. Nervous, he enters when called. The interviewer warmly welcomes him and informs him that he has been appointed as a manager without even asking a single question. Overwhelmed with happiness and shock, he asks for the reason behind his appointment.
The interviewer answered as follows: He had been watching the CCTV cameras from the front gate to the room. The wasting of water from the hose, displacement of the mat, lights, and fans that were on unnecessarily, and the photo that was hung upside down were all done by their team. This was a test set by the team to select a staff member for the office. The test was to see how responsible each person attending the interview was. Everyone failed except for one man. He was selected for the position of manager due to his responsibility. The interviewer appreciated the man's sense of responsibility.
After the interview, the man thought about his father's advice and thanked him for instilling a sense of responsibility in him. His father always told him to be responsible and to ensure that lights, fans, and water leaks were corrected wherever he went. This made the man realize the importance of responsibility in his life.
From this story, I would like to convey that responsibility is important for everyone. It provides a sense of purpose, ensures ownership of duties, and shows care for those around us. Responsibility is a core ingredient for success in the workplace.
